Richard Marx has been writing songs for decades. Many know Marx for his conversational songs, including 1989's Wait Right Here.
Special to the daily

Many fans remember Richard Marx for his great pop ballads and rock hits of the late '80s and early' 90s. Marc is also known for being one of the most popular fashion trends of the era – the murik.

Looking back, the singer embraces all genres and styles of music with her rehearsals, including her former signature haircut.

"We're all wearing funny clothes at some point," Marx said. "Why not play on it? And my hair. My God was crazy. But I probably would have returned with less humor now if I hadn't had tons of hair there yet. So far, so good. "

While Marx likes to remember the early days on Instagram by posting fun flash photos, he is moving forward with this new phase of his career.

Friday, March 30 at 7pm. On March 30, Marx will perform at the Beaver Creek Concert at the Will Performing Arts Center. Tickets start at $ 45 and are available at the Vilar Center box office by calling 970-845-8497 or visiting

A composer who works hard to "get right"

Most people know Marx about his many noisy songs, including 1989's "Right Here Waiting." She has been writing songs for decades, but says she now takes a slightly different approach to the process.

"Over the years, I've been much more insightful about my text," Marx said. "Every line must have something in mind, and I'm like hell trying to avoid saying things like somebody used to say. Writing music for me is really an effort and fun. Songs can be cruel to me. But it's worth getting the pain right. ”

When not working on getting his own songs right, Marx is also a songwriter and producer for other top artists.

"I've been blessed with two simultaneous careers," Marx said. “I love recording and performing my own songs, but I also had to work with such a diverse range of amazingly talented artists on their music. Everybody, from brand new artists at the time like Jash Groban, to my personal heroes like Kenny Logins. Recently I wrote a song with Burt Bacharach that completely blows my mind. It's a great song. "

Glad to be back at VPAC

For her concert at the Villar Center, Marx will perform a solo show featuring her songwriting, no bright 80s style. Marx said he always enjoys playing at the Villar Center.

"The place is one of the most luxurious and beautiful places in the United States, and the acoustics there are amazing," Marx said. “It really dedicates itself to my solo concert. I'm just playing my songs moving between a guitar or a piano. And the audience is always a part of the show. I love it when they gossip about me. ”
