Dolly Parton has declared that her heart is "broken" after the death of longtime collaborator Kenny Rogers.
The talented singer, known for hits such as Coward Of The County and The Gambler, has died at home, aged 81, of natural causes, in the care of hospitals and surrounded by her family.
Parton, whose duet with Islands In The Stream, led Rogers to the US charts, shared a video in which he paid tribute to the singer sitting at the piano.
He said. "I couldn't believe it when I got up this morning and turned on the TV to check out what the coronavirus was doing, and they told me that my friend and singing partner, Kenny Rogers, had died.
"I know we all know that Kenny is in a better place than we are today, but I'm pretty sure he'll talk to God at some point today if he doesn't exist anymore, and he'll want to ask him for something. darkness is spreading here.
"But I loved Kenny wholeheartedly. And my heart is broken. A great old piece of it went with him today.
"And I think I can speak for her whole family, her friends, and her fans, when I say I will always love you."
Tear Parton put together a photo of the couple, adding: "God bless you Ken, fly high in the hands of God."
He captioned the post on Twitter: “You never know how much you love someone until they are there.
"I've had so many wonderful years and great times with my friend Kenny, but first and foremost I loved music and success as a great man and a true friend."
Lionel Richie, who wrote the song "Lady" by Rogers, shared a scene from their gallery of images, writing: “Today I lost one of my closest friends. So much to remember, so many adventures, my heart is broken. My prayers go out to Kenny's family. "
Singer Brian Adams writes: "RIP @_KennyRogers Thanks for all the good music and" when you love someone "(and of course, the casino, which is one of the best songs). Peace ":
Glastonbury organizer Emily Evis shared a video of Rogers performing at the festival in 2013, accompanied by the caption: "Goodbye, dear Ken."
Stars Matt Lucas, Bishop Bishop and Richard Markle paid tribute to Rogers' influence on the music world.
Former British star Lucas wrote on Twitter: "Thank you Kenny Rogers for your beautiful music."
Marx wrote: “I'm really sad to see Kenny Rogers go. He did so much for me as a young composer, and we remained friends for over 30 years.
“I'm really going to miss him. May he rest. "
Bishop shared a video of how Lucille struck Rogers in 1977 with his pet pig Milo.
He finished the video with the message "Rest in Peace, Kenny."
In 2015, Rogers announced a farewell tour, but continued to perform until 2017.
The Grammy winner, who played Legends slot at Glastonbury in 2013, was scheduled to make further appearances, but came out in April 2018 due to unspecified "health challenges".
He then said in a statement: “I have profoundly taken this opportunity to say goodbye to fans for the last two years.
"I could never properly thank them for the careers and support they have given me throughout my career and for the happiness I have felt as a result."
Born and raised in Houston, Rogers' trademark voice helped him bring up the number 20 single in the US charts from 1977-87, including Lionel Richie's wife.
In the UK he had two numbers: Lucille in 1977 and Caward Of Com (1980). The other top ten in the UK included Ruby in 1966 and Don't Take Your Love to the City and Parton Islands, streaming in November.
In 2013, Rogers was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the Earth and in the same year received a lifetime achievement award from the Earth Music Association.
The Gambler was accepted as England's team song at the 2007 Rugby World Cup, and Rogers told the players in a video message: "I don't know much about rugby, but it's a song that means a lot to me, and I'm very proud that you guys found something in it for your inspiration."
The Rogers family is planning a private service "to worry about the National Cow-19 emergency," the statement said. A public memorial will take place later.
