80s pop star Richard Marx and his ex-wife, Cynthia Rhodes, owned a lake bluff sold for $ 4.2 million this week, which is a big discount from the original $ 18 million price tag.
Despite the reduced wine, the sale makes him the first property on the shore of Lake Bluff or an adjacent forest lake to sell for more than $ 4 million since January 2018 when Nancy Hughes, the widow of filmmaker Jon Hughes, has paid $ 12 million for Lake Forest Lake property.
Marx and his ex-wife bought the property in 1997 for a little more than $ 3.1 million. On the shore of the five-story lake included a large seven-bedroom house built in 1931 and 400 feet deep on Michigan's private beach. They later added an 8,000-square-foot building that includes a music studio, a kitchen, and two bedrooms.
The value of that add-on is not in the public records, so it is impossible to say whether they sold it for less than their total investment in the property.
In the 1980s and 1990s, the Chicago suburb of Marx had four consecutive albums featuring platinum hits, including "Must & # 39; ve Knight Better" and "Right Here Waiting." Rhodes is a retired actress and singer, and starred in the 1980s Flashdance, Staying Alive and Dirty Dances.
The couple met on the series "Stay Alive" when Marx worked on the soundtrack and got married in 1989. They bought the Lake Bluff property eight years later.
The two divorced in April 2014 and listed the property for sale in November of that year, asking for $ 18 million. In 2015, Marx married actress Daisy Fuentes.
Marx and Rhodes could not be reached, and their listing agent, Andrew O & # 39; Neil, did not immediately respond to a request for comment. No Griffith, Grant & Lackie agent representing buyers. Buyers are not yet published in public records.
Lake County records show no change in ownership, such as one ex-spouse reversing interest in another, and in 2018 O & # 39; Neill confirmed to Cain that both Marx and Rhodes are the sellers.
In 1931, public architect David Alder designed the mansion for Lester Armor, the third generation of the notable meat family and its wife, Leola. Armor property was 73 hectares, but by the end of the 1970s all 5 other hectares were being sold as new homes. It was used in 1977 as Robert Altman's "One Marriage", starring Carol Burnett and Mia Farrow.
